Fulfilling the military’s GMTK order in just a few days was only the beginning of what promises to be a fruitful relationship between Peak Solutions and The Upstart Group.

With federal procurement spending approaching $500 billion annually, this is an important market for most any company, but in particular for a veteran-owned business such as Peak Solutions. According to the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Advocacy 2017 report on military business owners, 9.1 percent of all U.S. businesses are majority-owned by veterans.

Amazon gives government purchasing agents the ability to specify criteria when searching for vendors – such as service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) like Peak Solutions. In turn, suppliers are able to designate specific pricing visible only to government procurement buyers. Many government procurement contracts mandate a percentage of business go to these kinds of suppliers (for example, Public Law 106-50 established a contracting goal for Federal agencies to award 3% of prime contracts to SDVOSBs). In addition, many large prime contractors have SDVOSB subcontracting goals, and Amazon allows these buyers and suppliers to quickly connect.
